I ask Allāh, the Most Merciful, Lord of the Great Throne to take care of (protect) you in this world and the Hereafter, and to make you blessed wherever you be, and to make you amongst those who are grateful when provided, those who are patient when tested and those who repent when they fall into sin - for, these are the three signs of happiness.

"Seek knowledge, because seeking it for the sake of Allāh is a worship; and knowing it makes you more God-fearing; and searching for it is jihād, teaching it to those who do not know is charity, reviewing and learning it more is like tasbīh. Through knowledge Allāh will be known and worshipped. With the knowledge Allāh will elevate people and make them leaders and imāms, who will in turn guide other people."

          I said (to them): Ask forgiveness from your Lord, verily, He is Oft-Forgiving;

He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers

And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.

What is the matter with you, [that you fear not Allāh (His punishment), and] you hope not for reward (from Allāh or you believe not in His Oneness). [Qur’ān, 17:10-13]

O ye who believe! If a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm people unwittingly, and afterwards become full of repentance for what ye have done. [Qur’an, 49:6]

Reading the Qur’an numerous times or with its Tafsir once or twice during Ramadhaan

Shaykh Ahmad bin Yahya an An-Najmee

Question: Which is better, for the person to read the Qur’an completing his recitation numerous times or for them to read it carefully along with its explanation (Tafsir) once or twice during the month of Ramadhaan?

Answer: Wallaahi, if you read it once along with its explanation and understanding then this is better than reading it quickly in haste. And Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (May Allaah be pleased with him) when a man came to him and said to him, “Surely last night I read four parts of the Qur’an (from Surah Kafh to the End).” He said, “Verily I read this last night.” Ibn Mas’ud said to him, “This is like the hasty reading of poetry.” Therefore it is befitting for the person to read the Qur’an and reflect upon it. So, it is better for him to read it with its Tafsir (explanation) and take his time and ponder over it and seek help in reflecting upon it by what he reads from the Tafsir.

O you who believe! When you are told to make room in the assemblies, make room. Allāh will give you room. And when you are told to rise up, then rise up. Allāh will exalt in degress those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge. And Allāh is Well-Acquainted with what you do. [Qur’an, 58:11]

Smoking is Haraam & Advice How to Quit - Shaykh Abdur-Rahman al-Ajlaan

Smoking is Haraam [impermissible] & Advice How to Quit - Shaykh Abdur-Rahman al-Ajlaan.
التدخين حرام ونصيحة للمدخنين الشيخ عبد الرحمن العجلان

                  Question: Is smoking Haraam?

Answer: He says, “Is smoking Haraam?”

We say to the questioner, for example is smoke from at-tayyibat (that which is pure) or from al-khabaith (that which is foul)?

This is one question, a second question is, is smoke beneficial or harmful?

No one in his right mind would claim that smoke is from at-tayyibat (that which is pure) due to its foulness and its harm.

And no one in his right mind would say that smoke is beneficial or that it neither benefits nor harms. But, actually even the one who uses it would say that it is harmful.

And the people of medicine have agreed upon it being harmful.

So, even if it only had one of these two factors then it would be Haraam.

                  So, smoke is Khabeeth.

And Allaah has described our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him) with making permissible for us at-tayyibat (that which is pure) and making forbidden upon us al-khabaith (that which is foul).

So, it (smoking) is forbidden due to it being foul.

The second factor is that it is harmful.

And everything harmful is forbidden, even if it is not Khabeeth (foul, filthy). For example, dirt. Is it Khabeeth? No.

                  Allaah has labelled it pure.

One can purify oneself with it if there is no water or if one is unable to use it (water).
Therefore, it is not proper for us to label soil/dirt as being khabeeth (foul, impure) while Allaah has labelled it pure.

However, dirt is harmful if a person were to eat dirt.

Would we consent to someone saying that it is not Haraam upon you to eat dirt?

He says it is Khabeeth? We say no. It is not Khabeeth. However, it is harmful.

So, eating dirt is forbidden because it is harmful.

So smoke (smoking) combines between these two factors foulness and being harmful.

So, it (smoking) is forbidden and no one in his right mind would ever say it is tayyib or from at-tayyibat.

And what is obligatory upon the Muslim is that he quits it if he is tested by it.

And that he cures himself by quitting it by gradually using it less and less, step by step, and by sitting with the righteous and by attending the gatherings for seeking knowledge and by reciting the Qur’an and by staying away from the bad gatherings where smoke (smoking) is used.

And by this, with the permission of Allaah, he will be safe from it.

And that he seeks help by seeking nearness to Allaah by way of fasting and by increasing his recital of the Qur’an. And increasing his supererogatory prayers. And by staying in the Masjid. And by staying away from the bad gatherings/sittings and by this the person will be safe (In Shaa Allaah).

And him being safe from it (smoking) will be safety in his body, safety in his Deen (Religion), and safety in his wealth.

Allāh Has Named us Muslims, So Why Ascribe Ourselves to the Salaf ?

This doubt was very beautifully answered by Imaam al-Albāni in his discussion with someone on this subject, recorded on the cassette entitled, “I am Salafi”, and here is a presentation of the vital parts of it:

Shaikh al-Albāni: “When it is said to you, ‘What is your madhhab’, what is your reply?”

                    Questioner: “A Muslim”.

Shaikh al-Albāni: “This is not sufficient!”.

Questioner: “Allāh has named us Muslims” and he recited the saying of Allāh Most High, “He is the one who has called you Muslims beforehand.” (al-Hajj 22:78)
